This patient is a 25 year old male who presents to the emergency department with the chief complaint of left shoulder pain. The patient stated that he dislocated his shoulder last week and was seen and treated in the emergency department. The following radiographs were taken.
Questions:
1. Describe what you see?
Cortical irregularity is noted at the inferior margin of the glenoid and compatible with a fracture
2. Define Hill-Sachs lesion:
Hill-Sachs lesions occur when the edge of the glenoid causes an impaction fracture in the posterolateral aspect of the humeral head during anterior dislocation and in the anterolateral aspect in posterior dislocation. This lesion is reported in 11-50% of anterior dislocations.
3. Define Bankart lesion:
Bankart fracture is a fracture of the inferior lip of the glenoid during anterior shoulder dislocation.
4. Describe the Ideberg Classification?
Type I- Anterior avulsion fractures
Type II- Transverse, inferior glenoid
Type III- Transverse, superior glenoid
Type IV- Transverse, through body
Type V- Combo of types II and IV
