 This patient is a 40 year old male who presents to the emergency department with the chief complaint of right knee pain. The patient states he was playing basketball when his right knee collide with another player. The following radiograph was taken.

1. Describe what you see?

      Soft tissue swelling, with the patella displaced inferiorly.

         Diagnosis: Suprapatellar or Quadriceps Tendon Rupture

2. What would you find on physical exam?

      Inability to extend the knee

      Palpable Gap between the patella and the Quadriceps muscle

      Soft tissue swelling +/- an effusion

      Loss of the tendon reflexes of the knee

3.How would you manage this patient?

      Knee immobilzer

      Pain management

      Orthopedics consult and surgical repair .
