This patient is a 27 year old male who presents to the emergency department with the chief complaint of right side facial pain after being assaulted. The following Cat Scan was done.
Questions:
1. Describe what you see?
Soft tissue swelling in the region of the right zygomatic region
Slightly displaced right zygomatic arch fracture
Nasal septum slightly deviated to the right
Diagnosis: Right Zygomatic Arch Fracture with minimal displacement.
2. What signs and symptoms would this patient present with?
Palpable defect over the zygomatic arch
Depressed check with tenderness
Pain with jaw movement
Limited mandibular movement
3. How would you manage this patient?
Consult Maxillofacial surgery
Ice and analgesics
Possible elevation when cosmetic correction is desired or if entrapment of the mandible persists.
