What is the mechanism of injury?
The shoulder is dislocated inferiorly by indirect forces hyperabducting the arm. The neck of the humerus is levered against the acromion and the inferior capsule tears as the humeral head is forced out inferiorly. This injury always is accompanied by fracture and/or serious soft-tissue injury.
What are the complications of this injury:
Recurrent dislocations
Rotator cuff tear
Fracture of acromion with or without inferior glenoid fossa and with or without fracture of the greater tuberosity
Neurovascular injury
