This patient is a 15 year old male who presents to the emergency department with the chief complaint of right hip pain. The following radiograph was taken.

1. Describe what you see?

      There is slippage of the epiphysis of the right femoral head medially.

         Diagnosis: Right sided Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis.

2. How do these patients typically present?

      A slipped capitol femoral epiphysis is a condition that is most common in growing children, especially between ages 11 and 15. Patients complain of knee/hip pain 

      Symptoms include:  Knee pain

             Hip pain

             Leg turns outward

             Hip movements are restricted with leg movements

             Walking with a limp.

3. What complications can be expected for this patient?

       Avascular necrosis of the femoral head

       Chondrolysis (destruction of cartilage)

       Osteoarthritis (late complication)
